Overview
G-self is a strong all-rounder which has an answer for almost any situation, as long as it’s within your shorter-than-average red lock distance.
The Space Pack has strong ranged weapons in its BR, its sub that functions like a better Bazooka, a high-tracking assist, and Su-Cord which gives you super armor and great self defense.
Assault Pack is your mobile armor mode which boasts good mobility, high tracking missiles, a powerful and easy-to-hit gerobi, and a really strong melee attack.
The Reflector Pack is great for self defense against beam-spamming enemies, and has a few tricks up its sleeve for scoring big damage.
There’s no winning with G-self by relying on only one form- all three have to be fully utilized to bring out its best.
Space Pack Ability Details
Ranged Weapons
Main: Beam Rifle
Standard BR. Shares ammo with Reflector Pack.
Sub: Flash Attack
Pretty big hitbox, stuns on hit
Special Shooting: Pack Change: Reflector
5AC switches to Reflector with the panels deployed, 2AC switches to Reflector with the panels closed
2B: Su-Cord!
Pressure. Super armor on startup, stuns everything in the radius once released. Unblockable.
Melee Set
5B: 3-hit combo
A standard 3-hit combo. Has a cancel route:
5B~8B: Knee Attack
G-self drives its knee into the enemy. Pretty good damage, and can be followed up on with BC or Main.
8B: Beam Saber Spin
G-self slowly advances on the enemy while spinning beam sabers in both its hands, forming a shooting guard in front of it. If this hits the enemy, G-self then does a cool combo where it extends its beam sabers to the maximum length before slashing downwards into the enemy.
While G-self doesn’t travel very fast with this move, it tracks well and has a big hitbox which beats out not only a lot of ranged options, but melee ones as well. In other words, this is an intercept or defense tool, not one for offense. This can turn the tide if you can make the right read.
4B: 3-hit combo
A different 3-hit combo from 5B. Last hit sends the opponent flying backwards. This has a good curve and chases pretty fast, so it’s a good melee starter. Two downsides, though: there is a long gap between the first attack and the second, and there is a forced camera angle change.
You can combo after the 3rd hit into a beam rifle shot by fuwastepping backwards.
CC8B: Double Slash
2-hit combo. Second hit sends the opponent flying away in a state where you can’t follow-up. Either combo immediately after the first hit, or use the CC8B~BC cancel route.
CC8B~BC: Punches & Kick
G-self punches the enemy 3 times before delivering a finishing kick. This does a lot of damage, although it takes pretty long. Your best damage option off Su-Cord.
Su-Cord
AOE stun with super armor on startup. This is basically Pressure. But compared to Qubeley’s or The-O’s, Su-Cord has a noticeably smaller radius. Use with care.
Burst Attack
Beam Saber Melee Combo
Hit stuff really hard. Good cut resistance as G-Self moves around a lot during the animation.
Assault Pack Ability Details
Ranged Weapons
Main: Beam Cannon
Fire up to six times in succession
Charged Main: Beam Cannon (one-hit)
You’ll probably never use this
Sub: Missile Pod
Staggers on hit, good tracking
Special Shooting: Full Burst
Fires a gerobi and missiles, and also extends two beam sabers diagonally backwards. Fast startup.
Special Melee: Eject
Jump out of the Assault Pack. Changes pack to the one you last used. Does not cut tracking on the jump. Assault Pack stays on the field for a short while, will explode on contact with anything except G-self. The pack will also act as a Dummy that attracts enemy assists, and has shooting guard properties.
Melee Set
*B: Giant Beam Saber Spin
G-self charges at the enemy, and extends the Assault Pack’s long beam blades and spins 360 degrees. Hit enemies enter the spinning down state. You can’t sidestep cancel this, but this move has a huge hitbox and comes out relatively fast, allowing you to defend yourself from melee approaches, as well as catch unaware enemies with a quick 100-damage slash.
Reflector Pack Ability Details
Ranged Weapons
Main: Beam Rifle
Can be rapid fired by repeatedly pressing A, up to 3 shots. Shares ammo with Spack Pack.
Charged Main: Beam Rifle (High Output)
One-shot down.
Charged Melee (while panels are closed):Flyscope
Fly up and deploy panels. Recovers panels hp to full if panels are at 0 when this move is used. Cannot be boost dash cancelled
Sub: Beam Rifle (focused)
High power gerobi. Causes an explosion with a hitbox when it hits the ground
Special Shooting: Pack Change/ Close Panels
2AC closes the panels, 5AC changes to Space Pack.
While panels are open, any incoming ranged beam attacks will be blocked, and the Panel’s ammo will be consumed by the same amount of the incoming damage. Once the Panel’s ammo is depleted, G-self will do a short animation (while in yellow lock), and recovers ammo for all weapons in Reflector Mode.
Special Melee: Atmosphere Break
Turn into a giant bird and fly towards the enemy. Knocks the enemy upwards on hit. Shooting barrier when active.
Melee Set
Panels Deployed:
5B: Shield Tackle
With the panels deployed, all directional melee inputs perform this move instead. Can be cancelled into from A or CSA.
CC8B: Shield Bash
A relatively long combo with decent damage. You’re pretty cut resistant while doing this thanks to the deployed panels that can block beams for you.
Panels Not Deployed:
5B: 3-hit combo
Standard combo. Fuwastep forward or back after the last hit to follow up with a Main shot.
8B: Stun
A single-hit that stuns the enemy.
4/6B: Shield Bash
2-hit combo. Hard to chase enemies down with this due to the slow chase speed.
2B: Shield Tackle
Same as 5B with the Panels deployed.
CC8B: Shield Bash
Same as CC8B with the Panels deployed.
Burst Attack
Beam Saber Melee Combo
Hit stuff really hard. Good cut resistance as G-Self moves around a lot during the animation.
Strategies
- G-self has a lot of great options- just not at the same time. Switch between forms to match the situational requirements.
- Space pack is your main form. While you lack good damage options, you have great self defense options. Melee damage output is decent as well, so focus on poking for a distance, and swatting the flies that come too close.
- Assault Pack has missiles with great tracking, as well as a very fast gerobi. However your hitbox is huge and you’re not particularly fast, so use this form sparingly. The gerobi has great muzzle correction, so it can be used effectively even in close quarters.
- Reflector Pack is pretty bizarre, but can be extremely deadly.
- Deploying the back panels gives you a 120hp shield that protects your back from projectile beams. However, you become very floaty in this form.
- Closing the panels makes you move quicker, and gives you better melee options.
- If desperate to refill ammo for main while in Space Pack , switch to Reflector and let it break, which refills your main ammo, then swap back to Spack Pack.
- G-self has a shorter red lock than most, so supporting a long-range partner can prove challenging. Remember to position yourself properly, lest you get caught in the frontline ahead of your partner.
- E Burst is the standard for G-self, who is played mostly as a support. If you’re curious to try the frontline, S is probably more beneficial than F, although you can already multi-fire your Main in Reflector Pack.
